The Escalator

This piano four hands piece is inspired by the music of Scott Joplin combined with a latin groove. The title “The Escalator” is a derivative of “The Entertainer.” In addition, Rachael was in search of a similar sounding title since fragments of Scott Joplin’s piece can be recognized. The word “escalator” invokes thoughts of our modern world, and they are often associated with more urban places. Upon further research, Rachael learned that escalators were invented in Scott Joplin’s lifetime, and there was a novelty escalator in New York where Joplin lived, so it is possible he may have ridden an escalator. It is a fun coincidence that Scott Joplin and escalators exist on the same timeline.
